it's not about trolls being necessary or helpful.
if a thread has 50 good genners and 10 trolls, that's a healthy thread, not be cause the trolls make it healthier, but because it's full of life. like a healthy dog with fleas.
then for one or another reason the good genners leave, then you have 15 good genners and 5 trolls,
ironically the 5 left over trolls are helping to keep it alive.
then they leave, and then you are left over with 4 good genners and zero trolls, aka /g/
is just dead.
