If something like this actually happened americans would literally call for the middle east to be nuked.
They would genuinely totally exterminate muslims from the face of the earth with nuclear armageddon.
We know this because a few thousand died in 9/11 and they decided invading two different countries (one of which wasn't involved in any way) and killing millions in decades long wars was a proportionate response.
The fact that they genuinely use this cheeky phrase as a joke to signal an "absurd" argument is a perfect demonstration of how tribalistic they are.
The lives of the in group are worth more than those of the outgroup, especially if the latter is perceived as being hostile.
