12 is a weird age. You have some 12 year olds who still sleep with a teddy bear and cry at any movie more violent than the average Disney schlock, and then on the other hand you have 12 year olds who regularly watch porn, have let their 14 year old boyfriend finger them, and go to bars with their older cousins. And a broad spectrum in between. Yet the law is written as if only the first type exist.

Honestly, even leaving sex aside, the way people treat children these days is ass-backwards. Rather than trying to 'protect' children from adulthood, the role of a parent should be to prepare them for it.

Instead you have parents who won't give their kids any responsibility or even let them out in their own, and then the day they turn 18 it's like 'well, you're an adult now, you should know this stuff'. YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO TEACH THEM YOU USELESS MORONS. Instead you actively obstructed them maturing then threw them out into the world and wondered why they struggled. And now we have the younger millennials and older gen Z having kids of their own, and perpetuating the cycle because they think it's good parenting to never let their kids out of their sight, apparently incapable of drawing any links between that helicopter style parenting and the massive problems their generation has had with 'adulting'.
