The whole messiah end times shit was the jews reaction to getting btfo by Greece and rome. The rabbis were seething that all the youth were getting hellenized and refusing to get circumcised.
They lost their autonomy to rome, they started coming up with a legend that they would get a messiah that would end the world. Its just an apocalyptic cult that caught on with the dumb low class peasants, the proto communism was appealing to them.
They were basically reacting like a kid losing a board game and trying to flip over the board and end the game. 2000 years later and idiots are still waiting for jesus to return and end the world.
