Actually, having high expectations means that one can break away from a faulty IP much easier that someone who bullies himself into thinking that they can't really expect anything from entertainment ever again.
Years ago I did try to live by the tenet of lowering my expectations accordingly so that I wouldn't be disappointed - and doing so made me fucking miserable. Life has a way of dashing even the smallest and most insignificant of expectations, meaning that sensation of disappointment is inescapable. Plus, trying to lower and lower your expectations comes at a terrible cost of obliterating your self-worth until you end up forcing yourself to enjoy utter crap you would pass up otherwise.
Should S7 of Gumball fall flat on its ass, I'll simply move to other stuff that I enjoy and focus my attention on that instead.
