Haven't seen the original, but I do think Down Under is underrated. It may not be on the same level as some other Renaissance films, but it's still beautiful, has some charming characters, and George C. Scott is great as McLeach, who really deserves more recognition among the Disney villains. However, I think the ending is really weak. There needed to be an extra five minutes showing Marahute reuniting with her eggs/chicks.
