I remember those times when comics with Grant Morrison's name on them used to sell over 200k copies instantly, even if there was nothing else on the cover, no title, no artwork, nothing but "Morrison." Now, they have to make ~100 variant covers in the vain hope of selling at least 40k copies. And thinking that no modern writer will have the cult following that Morrison, Moore, Gaiman, Miller, and a few others enjoyed during their peaks, not even Hickman or Snyder, the current day "behemoths" of the Big 2, really makes me believe that comic books as a medium are close to dying out. It's so sad.
