The issue is the execs wouldn't approve funding of the movie at all UNTIL Genndy turned it into a gross-out dog humping movie. In an earlier form, the movie starred anthros going on a trip. The execs weren't impressed.
Execs have shit taste and will never approve what you think would be a good 2D movie. You'll have to attach some stupid gimmick.
