The sex is a big deal, but it's not for puritanical reasons. It's because a movie whose premise is "dogs fuck one another" is inherently disgusting and uncompelling. If this movie were about, say, a dog needs to return to his owner and there happened to be a scene where there is tastefully done dogfucking, yeah that's kinda weird but it could hypothetically 'work' because at least that's just one scene.
But this movie is all dogfucking. That's the premise. It's something out of Idiocracy. "Dog about to lose balls, so he go fuck other dog. Hahaha, very funny." It's "adult" only in terms of content, but not in terms of maturity.
Meanwhile in Fritz the Cat, a movie about an absolute bastard of a person, contains this extremely poignant scene

It's little wonder why people say Fritz is better. Hint: it's not based entirely around balls and fucking.
