We'd had BTAS, Gargoyles, Samurai Jack, Beast Wars, and more. The bar had been raised and the writers on 2003 MOTU didn't bother reaching for it. They couldn't even decide if they were going to be a more serious show or try for a tone similar to the original.
I'm not saying you can't point to some stuff that was good, but your nostalgia-goggles have to be on TIGHT to convince yourself that 2003 was the high point for MOTU.
