basically despite being a kid's show it's written exactly like the old network TV procedural. insert only a few episodes in each season that make the main story progress just a little bit, but always keep the same status quo overall.
also modern audiences accept longer gaps so they're only on the middle of S6 despite the show being 10 years old. old episodes being easily available on streaming also helps.
