>has been overwhelmingly written as a cold-blooded killer
this is just factually untrue - when he's trying to kill somebody it is overwhelmingly because he has a specific score of some kind to settle. he's not the Joker with scales, he's not the bad half of Harvey with scales, and for much of her history you'd have been likelier to survive meeting him than meeting Ivy.

him being chill with people when they're not treating him like shit is in fact both closer to his origin and the thing he's done most often. he gets reduced to a sadistic subhuman animal by like a couple of writers ever and the only people who pretend that's "what he always was" are people who hate him for whatever reason (or possibly people who only know him from adaptations, not the comics).

like, sure, i get not liking a character, but Waylon Jones as "misunderstood Frankenstein's Monster-like guy beaten down and discarded by society" is LITERALLY HIS 1986 ORIGIN.

it's not new, and it's not unusual - a psychopathic crocodile that happens to be bipedal and named Waylon Jones is the departure.
