At least it was very brief. Character regressions in cameos are some of the likeliest things to not carry forward. Hell, just reframe it as the Whale Enders stealing the Atlantean-tech power armor to keep others from causing a ton of ecological damage with them if you simply HAVE to acknowledge it.

It's a very condensed stupid, too, given its brevity; does a surprising amount of things wrong in very short order. Grace was never in charge of the Whale Enders before - she's not very confident as a leader (that's kind of important to her character), and they're after power armor made with Atlantean tech solely because "duh, whales is sea." When Grace's whole point is that she's NOT A SEA MONSTER, she's at best LARPing as one in self-hatred.

It's a writer ironically doing to Grace the thing that she does to herself as an expression of self-loathing (something the King Shark book, strangely enough, gets totally right about her) - treating her like a dumb, brutish, criminal beast. I don't see the cameo sticking if somebody wants to use her again as more than just a sea-themed decoration to meet an issue's fight quota, but she's low billing so that may be all we get.

I think >>150834943 is right, and Grace isn't gonna push back against a boss because she truly has the girlfailure mindset. She seems to fold easily to authority, and even in that panel she's not mentioning anything about leadership or command - BOTH of those jobs are typically for lackeys in comics. She doesn't think highly enough of herself to give orders. She probably thinks if she makes decisions she'll screw everything up (again) because she's "just a big stupid sea monster who everyone hates." If somebody gives her orders she can actually follow, it's at least a way to (briefly) feel less like a failure.

She's unfortunately an easy target for bullying by anyone not passively intimidated by her size and strength - including people much weaker than she is.
