the disney style IS the platonic ideal of all animated characters. you just have to accept that if you want to distinguish yourself from that style you must make your characters look worse.
The right crash is better than the left. Maybe the left is more iconic, maybe the left makes more narrative sense, maybe left fits the tone and intention of the artists better. The design on the right is more technically competent and aesthetically please.
