If they weren't trying to make her likable then what was the point of the backstory. It was already made clear that she's fucked up and evil through the ways she chose to achieve her goals. They could've shown why exactly she wanted bigger power more subtly, maybe make her say "Finally, I'll have my revenge and then I'll fix everything!". Making her feel bad after the Three incident and being desparate to undo her mistake made her more sympathetic. I already rooted for her because I wanted to see her kill Two and Four, but now I root for her even more.
