I think they're fine, conceptually. But for about 80 out of the 90 minutes of Ghoul School the cadets are collectively just a plot device, going from token antagonists in the first half (because SOMEONE has to play against Grimwood in a volleyball game) to helicopter-ex-machina in the second half. Anything else is just them dicking around and filling the runtime that would've been better spent on the girls. Not even one personality between them, unlike the ghoul girls who get two, charitably three character traits to share.

Maybe if you spun the movie off into twelve 22-minute episodes of television they'd get a chance to be more interesting. Hell, EVERYONE would get a chance to be more interesting. Imagine the pathos of the octopus butler's tragic backstory!
