Yea, it's hard to tell it's entirely because he's got no leash, or if the dude changed over the years because so many of his works got canned before their conclusions. I recall how he mentioned if he could revive SBT, he'd probably change a lot of things, and who knows what that would entail. I'd be welcome to a bit more violence and fanservice since the show had its share of that. But I'd also be wary of a five episode arc dealing with a situation that at best could have been told in just two episodes. I'm somewhat reminded of the unhinged vandalism made to the wikipedia for the show when it was still airing and making up all this stuff like Lance and Ilana getting support from Earth and the G3 and launching a combined assault on Galaluna, all happening in like the last two episodes, since I think it was just before the third to last episode, the one where Octus is killed by the electrical alien.
