The lore has never been plot driven. For example, Finn's mother becoming the dictator of a dystopian “safe” society is totally irrelevant to the story. It's only relevant to Finn himself. If you watch each episode of the Islands miniseries, each one was self-contained. And it just painted a picture of wacky sci-fi dystopian societies. The problem is that F&C is more serious about its tropey writing. Take the Mad Max universe of Farmworld, which was fun in S5, but in this version is like TLOU. Light on jokes but heavy on “feelings” yuck.
