His positivity seems forced and obnoxious at times. He was a mess and on Lexapro according to Katherine and his emails so his attitude is probably a coping mechanism. Suicidal people can also seem happier before they're going to kill themselves because they've got everything planned out, although I guess that last bit wouldn't apply since he's already dead.
