It's actually very amusing how Taeshi had to solve the way she wrote herself into a corner. How do you move the plot when your main character can't be seen as responsible for her actions and can't face any consequences else the idolatry that's been keeping your comic alive dies? Use a character so hollow and unimportant that can shake any kind of consequences off his shoulders and have him push her. After all it is David's fault! Lucy never said yes :), but David is a silly guy so you shouldn't take his actions as malicious, he just made an oopsie! :)))
