Most people never really see that even going pro is a very short term thing for majority of them. Lots of those guys burn out after about three years.
That still leaves a 20 something with few prospects, but not a totally broke one. Someone who played even a year or two of NFL can typically get some kind of decent job by fans who want a real player on their workforce so they can use the name. Like car dealerships etc.
