But a lot of actors are classically trained, they were or are still theatre kids, and general audiences do absolutely love theatrical performances
Outside the US, theatre is still fairly respected, so disdain for theatre is, while not uniquely so, a very american mindset

And often the only thing you need to do to get people to like theatrical performance is to just perform it on a movie set instead of a stage
