>Would the skin need to be tanned ?

I assume it would have to, otherwise it will quickly degrade. Moisture will leave the outer layer causing it to shrivel and wrinkle while sweat and oils left by your skin will make it rot.
Ultimately it is a question of whether you want to wear a decomposing corpse or do you want to make it into a fashionable piece of clothing. After tanning you could just airbrush it with correct paints to give it back the natural look or make it any colour you want really.
And later put makeup on it to get it just right.
After the skin is tanned you could go haywire with it. Just decorate it with studs and maybe snap fasteners so you could attach stuff to it.
An ultimate version of piercings :)
Tanned skin could also be tattooed with wonderful patterns and inscriptions. Hell, you could probably also get fake hair and punch it into the tanned skin with a modified needle and some patience. Go mad, have fun, break the law. Nobody can stop you from exploring the plausible possibilities.
