Pokédex entries are almost entirely focused on how the monster eats and how it feels to be eaten & digested. Anything else is barely a footnote.

The whole "official tournament" thing started because a lot of domesticated monsters still have the instinct to hunt, and need an outlet for their violent instincts. Fighting "rivals" over food is a good substitute.

Speaking of which, championships are held every 4 years instead of every year, because the trainers spend a lot of time getting eaten and revived.

There's always one Hex Maniac fully convinced that the revival machine doesn't resurrect people, and instead creates a new independent clone with the memories of the original, while said original remains dead. The Maniac finds this to be way more arousing.
