another thing to note, actually:
-in quick mask, white selects, and black deselects. so you can switch to black to correct selection errors. colors in-between are no good, for a reason i don't remember (this is mentioned in the editor screenshot, besides the fact that black is used to deselect. i watched a youtube video on it on 2x speed that said the same thing):
