unfortunately gimp doesn't seem to scale line spacing proportionally for font sizes, so i can't just set a line spacing offset and forget about it. i found the most problematic letters in my font ("pally bold") to be the lowercase letters "qbfjlg"), so for every caption from now on when i calculate (or maybe one day arbitrarily choose) the font size for any given image, i will have to paste those lowercase letters into a text box twice, separating them by a line, then manually count the pixels to make sure they're separated by the arbitrary spacing i want them to be (in this case one pixel from the lowest point of the lowest lowercase letter and the highest point of the highest lowercase letter)
