i ended-up just reducing it to two (2) gaussian blur "stroke" (outline) layers rather than just copying the three (3) of the "pally bold" font. updated my catbox album and rentry with versions of my first nine (9) captions (which use the "wild words" font) here:

i didn't trial-and-error the size of the stroke layer; i just left it with the same proportions as i use for "pally bold" (2.5x the "grow" size of the normal "stroke" layer). i don't know if it'd be worth doing so, anyway, because the problem is that since the line spacing is so dense and the kerning is as well (as far as all-caps fonts go), there is disproportionately more overlap for the blur between the letters than a lowercase font like "pally bold", so the metric for "too bold" is really gauged between the letters, as opposed to "pally bold", where you are more just discerning how bold each individual letter is in a vacuum. so i think the main thing was just that three (3) gaussian blur "stroke" layers was too much, so two (2) was the only option. being OCD about the blur size is secondary, so with my being unable to be arsed to do it, it is good enough just copying the ratio i use for "pally bold"
