I love transformations and JRPGs so I want to make an RPG Maker game that heavily features a transformation mechanic, but I am a bit undecided between two main concepts.
1) Use magic status effects to transform enemies. I picture some kind of crafting system that the player can use to make potions with 2 ingredients, ingredients dropped randomly by enemies or obtained from chests and a plot involving a player captured by fairies, cultist women of some kind, or dark elves. Most enemies have a transformation that results in an "instant win" if applied to them due to circumstances in their form and battle. Sample transformations: small girl, giantess, plant, slime, mammal, aquatic animal, insect, rock, muscle, extra body parts. With each transformation being a bit different for each enemy. A spell that turned one girl into a seashell turns another into an octopus.
2) Transforming party members. Basically transformations are like jobs in Final Fantasy 4 or Dragon Quest III and your characters can acquire them at the shop or through finding items and change your stats and skills depending on them. Sample transformations would be a lot more monstergirl focused like werewolf, lamia, harpie, ghost, mushroom, etc. The plot would probably be either something like a group of girls in some kind of wonderland or a fairy who is in love with a human and wants to find a transformation spell that lets her turn into one.
Which idea would you like more? I like idea 1 more because I feel it makes combat a bit more interesting, but I am afraiid it might make it more tedious. Are there any games that use these concepts that I haven't heard of?
