To my understanding, comb is "expensive" for bees to make, both in time and energy.
The flip side is that old comb is more likely to contain some kind of pest or like wax moths, or some kind of mold. I talked to a big commercial bee keeper who said that theit business only uses langstroth frames for a single season.
