The rule of thumb I go by is assume the boots fall apart the minute the warranty expires and ask yourself if that minimum amount of time (usually 1 year) is worth what you're paying for. If the boots make it that long, I'd say you got your money's worth and have little to complain about when you toss them.

Not without patching the worn upper. Even then, the major limiting factor for your Shitkickers of Theseus is the condition of the insole which will give out eventually if the footwear is worn with any regularity. Most cobbler shops will tell you that they're toast because replacing an insole is effectively rebuilding the entire boot.
