The rule of thumb I go by is assume the boots fall apart the minute the warranty expires and ask yourself if that minimum amount of time (usually 1 year) is worth what you're paying for. If the boots make it that long, I'd say you got your money's worth and have little to complain about when you toss them.

Most cobbler shops will tell you that they're toast because replacing an insole is effectively rebuilding the entire boot.
