Autism rant/blog post:
Weather cooled down for the week so I cracked out the Samurai s510xx in the 21 oz. I really think it may be their best denim and cut. Their other denims have way too much texture and slub whereas the 21 oz has a slightly more uniform feel with reasonable levels of texture. The shade of indigo is incredible in person, and the 510 cut is that perfect 60s repro. Compared to the IH634 (also a 60s repro inspired cut), it actually has enough room in the top block. Now that I’ve spent some good time with this, it really blows my mind to look at the 634s and see how Iron Heart chooses to take repro cuts that are already perfected and make completely unnecessary modifications like lowering rise and slimming the leg even more. A 60s repro is already on the absolutely bare minimum level of rise and thigh width for a “straight” cut, why the fuck would they lower/slim it up even more? Out of all their cuts, The 1955 is arguably their best, but even that was subjected to unnecessary fuckery with the absurd degree of taper they chose to add below the knee. Like, what was the point of doing that? Aesthetic purposes? True 1950s repro cuts already have a perfect taper ratio, so when they add that extra ~40% of taper below the knee it crosses that threshold of looking weird or unnatural instead of hip. The worst part is that they literally call it the “1955” even after they altered the cut to not actually be a true 1955.
