>These people are what got me to stop dressing alternative
>They’re also what got me to abandon anything geeky or even associate with people who even look remotely alt or nerdy.
Absolutely same. As it is now, if I see anyone openly displaying love for something conventionally nerdy (esp. through fashion), it's a massive red flag and I avoid them. Truly a case of:
>Yes I am intimately familiar with X thing. No we have nothing in common. Begone from me foul demon.

>I wanna hear more
They infiltrated these spaces and their attention seeking degeneracy spread like the plague. The low IQ autistic men got steam rolled as they were the most susceptible to falling for mentally ill pussy and/or being convinced they're trans. The timid types with low self esteem got prayed on and pressured into drugs/sex. Then once the fandoms started catering to these ideologies, everything just became a vapid, polyamorist, trans, gay cesspool. The minority of normal, non-retarded nerds either left entirely, or splintered off with into tiny, insular, extremely vetted groups of 3-4 people that just ignore "current thing" and enjoy their "pre-community" era stuff. Most of them learned to divorce their love of a thing from the "fanbase". Legit, the whole thing created a caste of nerd diaspora.
There's also something to be said about the degeneracy starting in the scifi circles of the 70s, but I don't know enough to write about that meaningfully.
