I visited my relatives down in Mississippi once and it was like stepping into a different world. Everyone was friendly enough but they were dumb as rocks and had zero culture. Their idea of a big night out was Dollar General or driving to Buc-ee’s, where they kept telling me I was going to be amazed by how clean the bathrooms were and how little shit there was on the toilets. I couldn’t believe how cheap everything was, gas and food were dirt cheap and houses were like $100k, but you’d have to live in a shithole out in BFE to get that. It felt like time froze down there sometime in the 1980s.
