Well for sharing files locally to your tablet you can use kdeconnect.
The problem with nextcloud is you'll need a user account for each person logging in or a shared account they'll all use to access files you store there. You can host it at home on your pc if you don't care about uptime but it means you gotta worry about dynamic dns, opening a port on your router, and deal with someone complaining your server is down when you're away from home and can't boot your pc.
You could pay monthly for a VPS, then all you have to worry about is user management. There's even providers that have nextcloud dedicated VPSs available so you don't even have to set it up yourself.
