That really has nothing to do with it despite what they keep saying. There is still lead in all kinds of fuel. The airplanes flying over your head everyday use it and so do a lot of other things. The lead coming out of the cars wasn't even that big of a deal compared to the other shit they were spewing out all over the place. Like the DDT fog trucks that used to ride right through neighborhoods and blanket everyone.

The crime rate dropped because people do not leave their house anymore aside from going to work and maybe shopping. It isn't like it was a few decades ago. People used to actually go out and do stuff as a group and attend events multiple times a week. The violence was mainly people getting robbed or getting into drunken brawls. Murder is way down unless you live in the major cities. But even there it's much lower now because so many people were forced out of the city centers.

Also lead in cars wasn't even new or that bad. All throughout history people have been consuming lead on purpose. It was a sugar substitute for hundreds of years and most wine and candy was laced with it.
