>I'm guessing you followed adeadtrowsers instructions to downgrade the ROM and never actually got to flash lineageOS?
Yeah.
>I'm guessing you had only half the touch screen working after flashing the older stock rom with the new MediaTek tool right?
If by MediaTek tool you mean SPflashtool, yes.
I emailed Mr Trousers and he told me to try flashing it anyway before sending it back, apparently SPflashtool will reliably put the stock ROM back on there even if they get stuck boot-looping, and there's apparently a faint chance that LOS will fix the touch screen issue. He said a couple others have contacted him about the bug too.
Though now I'm getting an Error 1: Failed to mount "/system_root" (no such file or directory) when I try to load the zip, so I'll probably wipe it and start from scratch tomorrow again. Or maybe I'll try the Error 7 troubleshooting tip of copying across the extracted super-YYYY-MM-XXX.7z file, wherever I'm supposed to find that.
Unihertz have offered me a swap, though I'll have to send the phone back, then wait for them to receive it before sending a fresh one out.
