Well now you are losing because you want to die on this hill that you can have a functional desktop without conceding a little to Redhat related technology. This has nothing to do with FreeBSD anymore btw. And I'm not defending Redhat. We simply have more work to do for a fully independent desktop OS.
DBUS is just one example. From what I've seen from the FreeBSD forums, devs are hesitant to adopt XLibre because of the political messages. Unless I can install XLibre I still need to fallback on Redhat's X11. There's also the XDG standards that every desktop environment follows which includes things like the .desktop files and icons. I'm also curious how you run sound without pulseaudio or pipewire?
