I already basically said this in my other posts but I think I should make it more clear. Optimization is not a problem for users of lossy audio in 2025. We are not storing our files on iPods with mini hard drives with 20-40GB storage on them anymore. Compatibility is more of a concern. There's also the issue of acquiring the content in the first place. Where are you going to rip opus files from for free, YouTube? You'll probably find those sound shittier than if you encoded to opus from FLAC yourself. That's not true for the sources of 320k mp3s out there. So if you want it done right you need to source lossless files and encode it yourself, which means you need to be fucking autistic like me. Even though 320k mp3 is not what I use myself I think it's the most obvious choice. Universal playback support. Even the shittiest old device that struggles with VBR mp3s will handle it. Yet it's not excessively large. An album would come out to around 150-200mb. If that's too much for you I think you're stuck 20 years in the past and it's time to move on.
