its not, the GUI will always be a disaster on Linux and that will never change because of the kinds of "people" that are behind Linux development and the UNIX philosophy. GUIs are second class citizens.
For real Linux users, Linux is completely fine because they already know how to do everything and it works just fine for them. There is no "future of the linux desktop" for them. The pre-existing tools already work, in the UNIX way, not in the Windows or Apple Mac way. And that's fine. But people here like to evangelize Linux for whatever reason (which is retarded), and for Linux to actually have mass appeal on the desktop it has to copy Windows and macOS in being a GUI oriented OS.
