NTA but the HDMI forum that oversees HDMI is known to be occasionally scummy. They occasionally do shit like this: https://www.phoronix.com/news/HDMI-2.1-OSS-Rejected . On top of that, going back to the comparison with video codecs, HDMI like anything MPEG-based like H.265 and VVC is heavily patented and comes with a cost/royalties for implementing it whereas Display Port like AV1 is royalty free. No cost for manufacturers is the main reason why nowadays most video cards have 3 Display Ports to 1 HMDI port.
