I'll have you know I just use the volume buttons on my keyboard when I'm at my computer and the pot isn't plugged in. The pot is for when I need to plug into something else that can't adjust the volume as easily or has a high noise floor that I want to attenuate. It's actually useful when you need to use devices other than your personal phone or computer. For one example, there are corporate computers I have to use that have USB ports disabled but I might still want to hear the sound sometimes. Or if I need to listen to something with a line level output, without finding an amp, I can hook up the IEM with the attenuation and safely listen without blowing my ears out. I don't think I need to explain how having an analog pot compatible with anything is different from a usb volume knob for your computer. I actually do understand this stuff which is why I am able to choose the correct pot value and also choose IEMs where it DOESN'T affect the sound quality.
Man, it is funny to me you think I'm "ruining" dacs. The cable with the attenuator can be unplugged like any other. It's not some kind of permanent dick removal surgery.
