no it wasn't and no it's not, it was marketed as an incremental upgrade over the 737 which itself is almost 50 years old

thats even why so many crashed -- it was avoidable issues with software but because it wasnt considered a "new" airframe, pilots didnt have to be retrained to become aware of its "insidiocracies"(abject UI failures)
