The problem with this is the constant macho competition where men have to constantly one-up each other, whereas many guy just want to take life easy and live true to themselves. In order for there to be "winners" there must be losers, maybe what upsets alpha guys like this is the fact that many of the losers are no longer willing to play the humiliation game, so the alphas now have to compete with each other more in order to stand out more.
