fun fact: the DANGER LEVEL on my local base is literally higher than on bases in not-really-east-but-threatened-by-russia europe because if you work/live on the base here in canada, you are statistically more likely to be shot than you would be in Latvia or Estonia

i think you lose legal "veteran" status if you're dishonourably discharged/involuntarily released for crime (i forget which category it is but theres like 5 of them and 4 are boring shit like "retired"/"got hurt"/"contract completed and didn't re-up but also didn't explicitly not re-up")
