we can mess around with the labeling and vocabulary all we'd like. sounds like "skill" in your definition has to be practically useful or someone has to be willing to hire you to perform it.

I'm using the broad definition of "the ability to do something well" i.e. training a skill.

people that don't train leets will mostly fall flat on their face in these interviews, unless they have a coincidental rigorous problem solving background in their undergrad. they fall flat because they lack the skill. the acquisition process sucks ass, I will admit. That's exacerbated by the jobs not making use of this tested skill at all, which makes it all pretty lame.

Anyways that job also gave me some of the best/smartest colleagues, so the IQ filtration seemed to work
