There's nothing to get anon. You either enjoy the consumerism aspect itself or you don't. It's like trying to "get" a different sexual orientation, you can be aware it exists and you can be fine with that thought, but you won't truly ever get it.
My past flatmate was into collecting shit like funkopops and it's bewildering to me too, but life is too short to police what others do with their time. As long as it's not my own children I won't care, may they sacrifice their money on the altar of commerce.
Also from their perspective a lot of shit you spend your money on is probably weird too, I know I have some rarer interests so who am I to judge.
