You actually can't assign hostnames to a lot of industrial equipment because it's locked down.
Again, it's nice in theory, but in the real world things suck. We have several large format printers that can print D/E sized paper, and I think only one of them allows you to assign a hostname. Should this be the case? Again, fuck no. But it is the case, and telling people working with this shit that it shouldn't be is about as useful as the people protesting whatever the current monthly trending topic is on college campuses.
