it's not about being distasteful, it's about being easily compromised. but if you're considering trying for one on your own time just because it will make you money, you are a poster child for "easy to compromise" but thankfully are too stupid to get one (you don't just apply for clearances on your own, you have to be sponsored by a corporation for a specific job/duty and getting one once through whatever means doesn't mean it will transfer over to future jobs. even moving position too wildly within the same organization can trigger "losing" it)
