you are not annoying
you are hard working, you are humble, you are kind, your presence is a net positive on this thread

thank you <3 you are very kind
>did you ever do any separate lighting studies to learn how tone can describe form? Like, did you go through a Sam Nielson course or do plaster casts or anything? Or has literally 99% of your study been those quick iterative drawings?
in terms of painting i have never followed any course or even semi-strict exercise like i do for drawing/sketching. i did paint way more in the past... just passive absorbtion of experience and other artist's insights. even if i did not "work through" them i can recommend these two books on painting: "light and color" by james gourney, and "alla prima" by richard schmid. above all else, paint a lot and experiment! your own experience will outpace any theoretical resource sooner or later, and the more you practice, the more it is "sooner" :^)
as for quick, rough tone / shading during sketching: that is simply a simplified / degenerated application of what i would normally do when finishing a sketch. the usual, formulaic passes of form shadows, cast shadows, local value, reflections etc. only done roughly, and all on the same layer. so that part of my sketching did evolve from the rigid practice, namely the time limit forcing me to compress more and more of the rendering stages at the end, to fit into the limited sketching time. and since it is so helpful in describing form to have a good base for subsequently placed marks, these shading passes stuck around to become part of "construction" and lose their stance as "rendering" / "polishing"
