London is a gigantic shithole, by far the worst part of the UK. The UK is genuinely a great place if you can afford to live in a smaller town or the countryside. It's orderly, quiet, safe, clean, pretty, lots of things to do, and everyone is polite. Everything works. It's a mess if you go into one of the big cities or specific smaller cities.
But I am not surprised that Australians wouldn't care too much.
